After I published the first stock list on 26th January, I haven’t made a general report about situation for you, sorry for that.
Besides acreage of whole SH decreased, I have many things to talk about, like thrown away planting materials of LA varieties at VZ, and earthquake in Chile, etc. Here I report summary so far, and present field and growing condition.
①Casa Blanca (flower) will very much decrease in winter.
Casa Blanca of SH had been decreasing, but demand and supply was balanced so far, and it contributed good controlled quality and quantity supply in calm winter.
VZ Company, which is the biggest production and export to Japan for SH bulbs, made a mistake with hot-water-treatment of planting material for 2010 crop, and became clear the most of bulbs haven’t sprouted.（Please see the pictures on HP ”picture of field in NZ by VZ” 14th January, that is harsh.
VZ’s 2009 crop(about Casa blanca) was over 1.2 million bulbs for export to Japan, but estimation of 2010 crop (even including 18-20 cm size) is said about 400,000 bulbs.
We could manage insufficient NZ crop of over 20cm size with adjust to Chile crop 20-22 or NZ crop 18-20.
We could maintain quantity of our customer’s order anyhow, but it’s for sure that cut flower of ”Casa Blanca“ in winter 2011 decrease a lot, and must be critical for so-called Casa Blanca production area specially.
② VZ in NZ has only Royal Trinity in LA variety.
They had production of Couplet and Dazzle, etc., until last year, but because of the gap between the people in charge, all planting material were thrown away except Royal Trinity.
We already contacted to our customer who had order non-production varieties and request to make change including 2009 NL crops.
③ Climate and growing situation in SH
□New Zealand
Please see “Christchurch climate graph 2009-10”.
Planting was done well, and finished 10days earlier than general year in VZ Company.
Cold climate continued from November to early January, so growth was late about 10 days. Then, temperature recovered like general year and it stays until March now. Later in season, if early frost will not happen, it is expected enlargement will catch up.
（In 2009, early frost started the last of March, as a result there were many shortage.）
Partly, in the variety planted in dense (Caruso and Cherbourg etc…), less big size is expected. (it will be corrected to next year)
Also Santander has many double noses again as last year. (same in Holland)

2010/03/24 Island Bulb Company and Bakker
□ChileLittle difference by Grower Company though, planting season was normal to 2weeks later.
According to the report when Dutch Export company visited there, growth is a bit late except Sun harvest company is located in North.
Southern Bulb Company cut the grand part to control the enlargement last year, but this year they leave all of varieties as it is and forward to enlargement.
Main cause is the frost continued 1week immediately after planting, specially early-grow varieties already sprouting (Con’ca dol, Marco Polo, Santander etc) are concerned.
●Earthquake in Chile
The large earthquake occurred in Chile central part at coast on 27th February. Please refer to the report (news flash) on dated 2nd March on HP.
Later, P.F.Onings Company announced as follow.
“We could contact with Chile and it is a good that people in all of grower company was safe.
Buildings (facilities) are hardly damaged, and the bulb is safe too. ”
We have scheduled to visit Chile to investigate in the middle of March, but we refrained. I expect that I can visit there at the harvest time, and want to investigate the quality.
④ The situation of bulb distribution
Soon after 2010 crop business was started, the order from each country advanced, most of Export Company sold out main varieties and size immediately.
We appreciate Export Company that distributed well our request variety and size. We hear that enough distribution is not done for the requirement in another country.
According to the questionnaire to each company by us, overall sales to Japan are as follows.

Less enlarge is concerned, so first we focus on appropriate delivery according to customer’s order.
We already informed shortage and suggested substitution for order, which variety became short supply. We continue honest business for customer.
⑤ How long we can use SH bulb in effective?
Oriental shift, the global warming, and expands of production scale by intensive bulb grower etc, starting of shipment from the Netherlands is more delayed compared with several years ago.
Also, speed of ship get slower by eco-drive, so it takes long time for transportation, and first arrival of some varieties start in February.
We recommend you that think about use SH bulb until January planting as a safety plan.
And NL new crop takes a time to sprout after planting, and thinking about the expected cut flower price in each cutting time, there are an advantage to use SH in the first half of February too. We hope your profitability.
◎Please use the information cleverly.
NL crop and SH crop have different power like the other variety. Please pay attention.
Impressions of buds counts will change between January and now very much, because growing circumstance changes as soil temperature in planting time, and also bulb’s power go down.
In our test greenhouse same lot of SH oriental was planted in end of October and begining of December, so tendency of buds count of this year and result gap between planting time has been seen.

09 SH bulb’s bud count of NZ was less than normal year, and CH is increasing. We have impression that difference between countries became small.
