The Report of the Harvest in Holland(December 26,2013)

NAKAMURA-NOEN CO.,LTD
Keigo Nakamura

Thank you very much for the continuous business with us.

Harvest of OR/OT in Holland almost finished, so we give the report below.

①Harvest of OR/OT(November – December)

Although starting harvest for OR/OT was a bit late because of delayed harvest for LA and rain in the beginning of November, after that, it went well thanks to continuous good weather.

There was no heavy frost in November and warmer than normal year in December, so some fields were not dying very much and harvest was delayed. A few growers are still digging.

Most of bulb sorting is followed by seasonal foreign labors. Normally, they go back to their country before Christmas, so some of growers finished working until 21st of December. (They need to finish harvest earlier)

Already 93-97% of the whole arrived at the exporters but some of them will arrive after sorting early in the New Year. So, we expect the final harvest result (like shortage) will be found by the middle of January. We try to do our best and also we would like customers to order with some quantities to spare.

②Harvest Result and the Market Situation

Following Longi and LA, crop result of OR is not good. About Siberia and Sorbone, 14-16 size is still left but 18-20 size is not left much. Crystal Blanca 18-20 size is lack. And some varieties which need 20-22 over size, like Casa Blanca, Signum, Manissa, Robina and so on, often become shortage. Especially 2 year crop is bad and we heard many double noses are seen in these varieties. It may be influenced by abnormal weather like low temperature in spring and drying in summer.

In any case, it is clear that the whole of Holland, the number of salable size drastically decreased than expected. On the other hand, the demand was adjusted to the supply because of down orders in Holland and China(20-30% decrease compare to last year !?).
